The Electoral Commission has rolled out the nomination of candidates for the LC 1 elections . The nomination exercise, the EC said will run July 15th to July 19, 2026, at designated Sub-County, Town, or Division Headquarters.
According to the official EC roadmap for the LC1 elections , oficial campaigns will be conducted from July 20 to July 27, 2026, for all cleared contestants and women’s committees polling- will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2026, using the traditional lining-up system.
According to the EC Chairman , Justice Simon Byabakama candidates running for the position of village LC I chairperson do not require any formal academic credentials to qualify.
All voting for village committees and chairpersons will require voters to line up physically behind their preferred candidate, representative, or portrait Aspiring candidates can collect necessary documentation from their respective Parish-level headquarters.
Meanwhile ,the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has concluded the process of identifying and endorsing its flag bearers for the forthcoming Village Women Council and Local Council I (LC1) elections, with Secretary General Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong urging party members to actively participate in the electoral process and mobilise support for the party’s candidates.
Addressing the media at the NRM Secretariat in Kampala, Todwong said the party had successfully conducted village barazas to elect and validate its flag bearers before endorsing their nomination forms clearing them to seek official nomination by the Electoral Commission between July 15- 19th, 2026.
