The Electoral Commission has begun displaying the voters’ register ahead of the Local Council One elections. The two-day exercise runs until July 14th 2026, with nominations for candidates scheduled from July 15 to 19.
At the conclusion of the two-day display of the Village Local Council One (LC I) and Women’s Council voters’ registers, the EC will now go ahead with the nomination of candidates exercise slated for July 15th to July 19, 2026, at designated Sub-County, Town, or Division Headquarters.
Official campaigns will run from July 20 to July 27, 2026, for all cleared contestants.
· Women’s Committees Polling: will be conducted e on Thursday, July 23, 2026, using the traditional lining-up system.
According to the EC Chairman , Justice Simon Byabakama candidates running for the position of village LC I chairperson do not require any formal academic credentials to qualify.
All voting for village committees and chairpersons will require voters to line up physically behind their preferred candidate, representative, or portrait Aspiring candidates can collect necessary documentation from their respective Parish-level headquarters
