The Government of Uganda has waived visa fees for all international visitors for three months surrounding the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) PAMOJA 2027, in a strategic move aimed at , to boost tourism and match attendance. This initiative, supporting the Pamoja EA 2027 bid, aims to stimulate sectors like hospitality and transport during the continental football event.
“If each visitor spends at least USD 1,000 during their stay in Uganda, that could potentially be USD.500 million at a minimum spent in the local economy,”.,Dr. Dennis K. Mugimba, Chairperson of the Communications and Signage Sub-Committee under the Local Organising Committee (LOC) told reporters at the Uganda Media Center .
The waiver, sanctioned by the Cabinet, is designed to ease travel logistics and maximize visitor numbers, following lessons learned from the CHAN-2024 co-hosting experience.
Officials aim for high attendance at venues like the Mandela National Stadium (Namboole) and Hoima City Stadium, aiming to maximize economic benefits estimated at over Shs1.8 trillion.
This policy is part of a broader strategy, which includes a separate, ongoing visa-free entry policy for citizens from 40 specific countries, strengthening Uganda’s position as a tourism destination, particularly for African and select global partners.
