Justice Byabakama said the National Women’s Executive Committee will be elected through an electoral college comprising members of the National Women’s Council
The Electoral Commission has set Thursday, September 3, and Friday, September 4, 2026, as the dates for the National Conference that will culminate in the election of the National Women’s Committee.
Justice Simon Byabakama, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, said the conference will be held at Kyambogo College School in Nakawa Division, Kampala Capital City, and will mark the final stage in the electoral programme for constituting Women’s Councils and Committees from the village level to the national level.
Justice Byabakama said the National Women’s Executive Committee will be elected through an electoral college comprising members of the National Women’s Council.
The electoral college will consist of 146 Chairpersons of the City and District Women’s Councils and one woman with a disability nominated by the National Council for Persons with Disabilities.
The delegates will convene at Kyambogo College School on Thursday, September 3, 2026, with accreditation scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
According to Justice Byabakama, accreditation will be followed by the nomination of candidates at 2:00 p.m.
Candidates will be nominated for four positions on the National Women’s Committee: Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Publicity Secretary and Secretary for Finance.
Justice Byabakama said eligible delegates interested in contesting for any of the four positions may obtain nomination forms from the Office of the Returning Officer for Kampala Capital City, located in Ministers Village, Ntinda, Nakawa, Kampala.
The Returning Officer for Kampala Capital City will also serve as the Returning Officer for the National Women’s Committee election.
After nomination, the candidates will conduct their campaigns on Friday, September 4, beginning at 8:00 a.m.
Polling will then commence at 12:00 p.m., with voting conducted by secret ballot.
Justice Byabakama has urged all delegates and aspiring candidates to take note of the stipulated dates, times and procedures and comply with the electoral guidelines governing the conference and election.
The September 3–4 conference will bring to an end the electoral programme for composing Women’s Councils and Committees from the village level to the national level.
The election is therefore expected to establish the new leadership of the National Women’s Committee and complete the formation of the women’s leadership structures at the national level.
The Electoral Commission has emphasized the importance of all accredited delegates and candidates adhering to the official programme to ensure that the election is conducted in an orderly and transparent manner.
With accreditation beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, followed by nominations at 2:00 p.m., the first day will lay the groundwork for the election scheduled for Friday.
The candidates will use Friday morning to present their programmes and seek support from members of the electoral college before delegates proceed to the polling exercise at noon.
The Electoral Commission has encouraged all eligible participants to familiarize themselves with the electoral arrangements and ensure timely attendance at the designated venue.
The outcome of the election will determine the four-member leadership positions of the National Women’s Committee and formally conclude the nationwide process of constituting Women’s Councils and Committees.
