Two people were shot dead in Bugembe town councilin jinja following violent confrontation as the NRM party registered mass victory in the concluded LC1 elections .
According to the RDC Jinja District ,Haji Ahmed Kateregga Musaazi, two people lost lives as security forces intervened to querry violent confrontation among competiting sections of rival supporters .
The deceased were identified as Fred Kalulu (19) and Ikal aka Lika Wise .
The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party secured significant grassroots victories across Uganda initial reports indicaated . Voters across thousands of villages lined up behind candidates, their portraits, or symbols to elect their village leadership for the first time in over 10 years .

NRM candidates secured majorities in several critical zones and these included among others , Robert Mulindwa in Kikuubo Zone (Kanyanya Parish) and candidate Kadu in Bukasa Zone (Kirinya Parish) with a landslide of 968 votes.
Despite the heavy NRM presence, independent candidates and opposition groups like the National Unity Platform (NUP) and the Democratic Party (DP) captured seats in urban strongholds.
DP’s Patrick Semakula won the Nakwero A Cell seat in Kira Municipality, while independent candidate Ssaalongo Joel Makweta claimed victory in Mukono.
In Stella Najanankumbi, veteran LC Chairman , Kiwanuka was decalred winner among protests of rigging from his largely NUP rivals . Regular police backed up by military police were delpoyed to esnure peaceful elections.
The Electoral Commission led by Chairman Justice Simon Byabakama, managed voting in over 71,000 villages.
While the process was largely peaceful with high turnouts in cities like Mbarara and Yumbe, some areas—such as Gomba and Lira City East—faced disruptions or temporary suspensions due to register disputes and localized violence.
Official, aggregated nationwide percentages and final village counts are being compiled and released progressively by the Independent Electoral Commission of Uganda.
