President Museveni Set To Open Multi-Billion Cement Factory In Karamoja
President Museveni is set to commission an over $300 million cement plant in Moroto -Karamoja sub region .
Yaobai Cement Uganda will officially launch its state-of-the-art cement plant in Moroto, in a landmark investment set to reshape Uganda’s manufacturing sector as well as unlocking new economic potential in the minerals rich Karamoja sub-region.
The factory is designed to produce 6,000–12,000 tonnes of clinker daily. This state-of-the-art facility, situated in the Karamoja sub-region, aims to transform the local economy, create jobs, and significantly reduce Uganda’s reliance on cement.
Located in Nadunget Sub-county, Moroto District,Phase I produces 6,000 tons of clinker daily, with plans for a total capacity of 12,000 tons per day.
The plant is supported by a dedicated 35MW power line from UEDCL.
Construction began following the groundbreaking in 2023, with full operations expected to start soon after the 2026 commissioning.The project, which leverages local materials, is part of a broader push to turn Karamoja into an industrial hub.
