Gen. Museveni Passes Out the 25th Intake Of 9,952 Police Constables At Kabalye PTS In Masindi , Directs Police Leadership To Set Up Police Schools For Children Of Police Officers
Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has presided over the pass-out ceremony of 9,952 Probation Police Constables at the Police Training School in Kabalye, Masindi .
The new recruits sucessfully completed at tough 11 months training course and are expected to be deployed and beef up the on-going sub-county policing model being implemneted across the country .
At the colourful ceremony Museveni asked the police leadership led by Inspector General of Police Abas Byakagaba, to emurate the army by setting up primary and secondary schools for children of police officers to reduce costs for servicing officers .

He called on the new recruits to be disclipened by avoiding alcoholism and womanising in order to serve their country effectively . The President advised the young recruits to spend their earnings wisely by investing in income generating activities .
IGP Byakagaba said that the new recruits that constitute the largest number in a single recruitment exercise will bring the total police strength to 58,369 personnel and help to cover 1,231 sub -counties in 23 police regions .
Byakaga told the President that 960 sub-counties are yet to be covered under the new policing model and noted that the current ratio of one policeman per 800 people was still far behind the recommended international standard of one policeman per 500 people.
in order to bridge that gap , Byakagaba said that police will need to recruit at least 3,000 police personnel every year for the next five years . He pleadge that the police will continue to upgrade its capabilities by acquiring modern equipment including electric motorcycles and improving the welfare of the police through better accomodation uniforms and feeding .
