Former New Vision Journalist Shot Dead At His Home In Kawanda Wakiso District
A veteran Ugandan journalist, Joe Nam, has been shot dead by an unidentified armed assailant at his home in Kawanda Central, Nabweru Division in Wakiso District.
Nam, 55, a former reporter with New Vision, was killed at around 1:00 a.m. on Sunday in what police have described as a targeted attack.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the attacker “who was masked” approached the journalist shortly after he had stepped outside his home to go for prayers and opened fire before fleeing the scene.

“Preliminary information indicates that an unidentified armed assailant shot and killed him. The suspect, who was masked, fled the scene immediately after the incident,” Owoyesigyire said.
The journalist’s wife reportedly heard the gunshots and rushed outside, where she found her husband lying unresponsive. Police were immediately alerted, but Nam was confirmed dead upon arrival of security personnel.
Security teams cordoned off the scene to document evidence and collect forensic material to aid investigations. Police say they are working to establish the motive behind the killing as well as identify the suspect and the firearm used.
“The body has been taken to Mulago Mortuary for a post-mortem examination as investigations continue,” Owoyesigyire added.
Joe Nam was widely known for his work covering business, environmental, and political stories during his career in journalism. In recent years, he had transitioned into consultancy after retiring from active media work.
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
