Gov’t To Pay Kabaka, Kyabazinga And Other Cultural Leaders Ug.Shs.61M Per Month

Parliament has adopted recommendations from the Committee on Gender, Labour and Social Development for government to provide Ug.Shs. 31.330Bn for payment of Ug.Shs.60m monthly salaries to each of the 17 gazetted traditional leaders.
The Committee further recommends that another Ug.Shs. 17.2Bn for the construction of palaces for the traditional leaders of Teso, Tieng Adhola, Buruli and Rwenzururu kingdoms following a President Yoweri Museveni’s directive.
According to Flavia Kabahenda, Chairperson Parliament’s Committee of Gender, Labour and Social Development revealed in a report that the total annual budget requirement for emoluments for traditional leaders is Ug.Shs. 32 170 billion but only UGX 840 million has been provided, leaving a shortfall of Ug.Shs. 31.3Bn. T
“The payment of traditional leaders’ salaries is in fulfillment of a directive by President Museveni to have Ug.Shs. 60m paid monthly to each of the 17 gazetted cultural institutions.
“The Ministry of Finance should avail Ug.Shs. 31.3Bn to cater for the implementation of cabinet’s directive on emoluments to the 17 gazetted Traditional/Cultural leaders. The Ministry of Finance should provide Ug.Shs. 17.2Bn for the construction of palaces for the lteso, Tieng Adhola, Buruli and Rwenzururu kingdoms as directed by the President, “said Kabahenda.
