ENGINEERS SHOULD ADHERE TO SET PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS SAYS ERB’S DR.MUTENYO

The Chairman of the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) and the President of the Uganda Institute of Professional Engineers , (UIPE) Eng. Dr. Isaac  Mutenyo and  Eng. Ben Kyemba have both called for adherence to set professional  standards among the engineering fraternity .

Speaking at a two day training of engineers at Kiira Motors Corporation ,(KMC), held at Casa Miltu Hotel in  Ntinda, Dr Mutenyo observed that engineers are playing a leading role in the development of Uganda and should therefore strictly follow the high quality standards set while executing their duties .

Similarly, Mutenyo urged the engineers at Kiira Motors -Uganda’s automotive industry flagship to ensure that they produce cars and nay other products that meet internationally acceptable standards as the company prepares to enter the global car market .

Kiira Motors is set to start car production mid next year at their vehicle plant which is being constructed by the UPDF Engineering Brigade through the National Enterprise Corporation ,(NEC) at the Jinja Industrial and Business Park.

The start up facility which is projected to produce 22 vehicles per day and 5,000 a year is at 65% completion and it is on course to be ready for vehicles production next year if government releases all the required funds to set up the production line.

Eng. Kyemba said that the law governing engineers in Uganda -the Engineers Registration Act of 1969 is under review and will be updated to make it mandatory that all practicing engineers must be registered to enforce professional standards and ensure high quality professional services offered to the general public.

The training was conducted by among others ,Eng. Dr. Florence Lubwama  Kiyimba who  is also the Vice Chairperson , ERB, Prof. Okidi Peter Lating from Makerere University , Eng. R.Namugera (Registrar at ERB), Eng. Dr. Eleanor Wozei, Eng. George Bwanga, Eng. James Okiror and Eng. Elias Bahanda.

The KMC team was led by CEO , Mr. Paul Isaac Musasizi and Director of Operations, Mr. Aruthur Asiimwe Tumusiime.
