By Our Green Mobility Reporters
Busitema University has joined Mkaerere University by adapting home grown green mobility solutions by acquiring their first fully electric Kayoola EVS bus produced by Uganda’s green mobility industry captains Kiira Motors Corporation (KMC).
The electric bus comes complete with a dedicated charging station installed directly within the university’s main campus premises in eastern Uganda .
The handover ceremeony was presided over by the new youthful Minister of Science Technology and Innovation , Eng. Eng. Jonard Asiimwe Akiiki and witnessed by Busitem University officials and KMC officials led by the CEO , Paul Isaac Musasizi.

The zero-emission coach promotes sustainable, locally-sourced transportation and serves as a practical engineering and training asset for the institution, University officials said ..
The handover of the Electric Bus and commissioning of the high-capacity DC fast-charging system demonstrates that advanced mobility technologies can be designed, built, and deployed within Uganda’s institutions of high learning -reinforcing a shift from technology importation to homegrown engineering excellence.

By strengthening collaboration between academia and industry, Busitema University is accelerating the conversion of research into scalable solutions that advance industrial growth, strengthen technical capacity, and support sustainable national development.

The deployment of the Kayoola EVS aligns closely with Uganda’s Net-Zero Carbon Emissions targets and the BUBU (Buy Uganda, Build Uganda) initiative .

By integrating e-mobility charging infrastructure, Busitema University is uniquely positioned to advance indigenous science, technology, and engineering practices, offering students hands-on exposure to cutting-edge clean energy automotive manufacturing.
