Uganda Parliament Elects Stella Kiryowa And Fred Rwakaizi Bangumya As EALA Representatives

The Parliament of Uganda has approved the election of Stella Kiryowa and Fred Rwakaizi Bangumya as the country’s representatives to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).

The two nominees advanced to the regional assembly unopposed after satisfying all structural requirements.

The milestone approval followed a comprehensive evaluation by the parliamentary committee led by Sheema Municipality Member of Parliament, Dicksons Kateshumbwa.

.Presenting the committee’s findings to the House, Kateshumbwa confirmed that both candidates had rigorously met all the necessary eligibility criteria and legal qualifications required for EALA representatives.

Following the committee’s clearance, the House proceeded to endorse the nominees, paving the way for them to take up their legislative roles in Arusha.

Kiryowa and Bangumya fill the vacant seats left by former EALA MPs Denis Namara (Buyaga West) and James Kakooza (Older Persons), who resigned after winning seats in Uganda’s 12th Parliament.

The decision marks a key step in strengthening Uganda’s representation and voice within the regional bloc as the new representatives prepare to champion the country’s interests in the East African Community.

Prior to the parliamentary approval, Kiryowa and Bangumya emerged victorious among 36 aspirants in the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) parliamentary caucus by-election.
