Police Recover Over 700 Suspected Stolen Phones In Kampala Operation, 13 arrested
The Kampala Metropolitan Police successfully recovered 723 suspected stolen mobile phones and arrested 13 suspects during a major intelligence-led operation at the Cooper Complex in Kampala’s Central Business District.
The raid focused entirely on Cooper Complex, which intelligence reports identified as a primary hub for illegal phone trade and reprogramming.
Alongside the 723 smartphones, officers confiscated over 460 used MTN and Airtel SIM cards from a single shop.
During the crackdown, three of the seized devices received real-time phone calls from their rightful owners, who confirmed they had recently been robbed in the Makindye area
The 13 suspects remain detained at the Central Police Station pending their arraignment in court. The Uganda Police Force has urged community members who recently lost their phones to report to nearby stations with proof of ownership and case reference numbers to facilitate the recovery process.
