Police in Buyende District arrested a Securex supervisor named Joseph Warom after a viral video showed him repeatedly caning a private security guard named Ayub Mbadi.
Mbadi, a security guard had been deployed at Kidera Sugar Works.
The supervisor accused the guard of stealing scrap materials from the factory and apprehended him on the ground.
Footage surfaced on social media showing a man lying on the ground being repeatedly struck with a cane while another man stood close by.
The Busoga North territorial police opened an investigation after the video went viral and Warom was arrested, placed into police custody, and faces formal assault charges.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim had been apprehended by the suspect, who accused him of stealing scrap materials from the sugar factory. It was during this incident that the alleged assault occurred.
“We reiterate that allegations of wrongdoing should be handled through lawful procedures and that no individual should take the law into their own hands, ” Police said .
