KYAGULANYI’S NUP APPOINTS MPUUGA LEADER OF OPPOSITION, NAMBOOZE, SEGONA, ZAAKE ,SSENYONYI AND BASALIRWA TO HEAD POWERFUL COMMITTEES

The National Unity Platform (NUP) party led by Robert Kyagulanyi has announced the appointment of Mathias Mpuuga, the leader of Opposition in the 11th parliament -which early this week elected Jacob Oulanyah and Anita Among Annet the Speaker and Deputy Speaker , respectively .
In a press statement , the NUP leadership stated that it will take all leadership positions available to it and “use them to advance the struggle for freedom and democracy in Uganda.”
As expected all the positions of leadership offered to the opposition in Parliament have been taken by NUP MPs save for Asuman Basalirwa MP for Bugiri Municipality and President of the Jeema Party who has been appointed Vice Chairperson Public Accounts Committee.
Other traditional parties such DP, UPC , FDC were left out -a clear indication of the deep-rooted division with in Uganda’s opposition parties .
Others appointed to key parliamentary positions is hitherto DP campaigner- Betty Nambooze who switched sides and joined NUP during the 2021 general elections. She will serve as the Chairperson of Government Assurances .
John B. Nambese NUP MP for Manjiya County will be the Opposition Chief Whip, Kyebakutika Manjeri , Deputy Chief Whip, Zaake Francis Butebi Commissioner of Parliament, Council Medard Lubega Segona MP for Busiro East will the chairperson of the powerful – Public Accounts Committee, Jeol B. Ssenyonyi , MP Nakawa East , Chairperson of COSACE and Lucy Akello woman MP for Amuru District will be the Deputy Chair -COSACE.
Others are ,Joseph Sewungu Gonza, Vice Chairperson Government Assurances, Ojara Martin Mapenduzi chairperson Local Government Accounts Committee, he will be Deputized by Paulson Luttamaguzi Ssemakula, Patrick Nsamba Oshabe- Representative Pan-African Parliament , David Kalwanga Lukyamuzi-Representative Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and Flavia Kalule Nabagabe- representative Inter-Parliamentary Union.
According to the statement, signed by the NUP Secretary General, David Lewis Rubongoya, the Party will soon announce its shadow cabinet that will drive alternative policy agenda in the 11th Parliament.
