INFORMATION MINISTER CLARIFIES ON MALLS, ARCADES OPENING
In a Twitter message ,the Minister of Information Communication Technology (ICT) and National Guidance , (NG), Ms. Judith Nabakooba , has reechoed President Yoweri Musveni’s directive on the phased lifting of the 75 day –nation wide lockdown due to the Covid pandemic and stated that it is only shopping malls that will be allowed to re-open and resume business tomorrow June 4th, 2020. This means that arcades shall remain closed .
President Museveni also directed that KCCA working together with the Ministry of Works and Transport should introduce separate lanes for vehicles , bicycles, walkways for pedestrians and boda-bodas in Kampala city .
Other key aspects of the presidential directives included, 4,000 individuals who were arrested for violating lockdown guidelines will be reviewed for possible release while government will continue to give food to vulnerable communities in Wakiso district and other places .Stand alone shops along Nasser and Nkrumah roads will be allowed to open , churches to remain closed while bodabodas and tuku tukus will not be allowed to carry passengers .
Public masks will be ready by June 10th 2020 and given out starting with the most at risk border areas such as Elegu, mutukula, Malaba and Katuna and lock down in all the 40 border districts still remain in force. The 7pm-6.30am curfew shall also remain in place .
