New Zealanders have started the week in celebration after the government announced the eradication of the Coronavirus from their country. WIth a population of over 5 million people, New Zealand becomes the first normal sized country to completely eliminate the virus from its territory.
Prime minister Jacinta Ardern disclosed that when she got the official confirmation that the country was entirely corona free, she broke into a dance with her two-year-old daughter in their living room, but she admitted that the toddler did not understand what the fuss was all about.It has been a tough battle for the nation of 5 million, with 22 people having died from Covid-19 since the pandemic broke out .New Zealand has suffered 1,500 positive cases of Covid-19, all of which but 22 have completely recovered.
As of Monday morning, there had been no new case for 17 days.The government has lifted all internal restrictions related to Covid-19 management. People are now free to associate and merry freely. THe country still remains closed to visitors but citizens who wish to return are free as long as they stay in quarantine for 14 days.Premier Jacinta Ardern congratulated her “Team of Five Million,” her habitual reference to the citizens of New Zealand.
