Entebbe International Airport Hits Record 198,000 International Foreign Passengers Ahead of NAM Summit

Entebbe International Airport continues on its recovery path with a record 198,961 foreign passengers registered in December 2023—104,160 arrivals and 94,800 departure.

Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) Spokesperson Mr. Vianney Mpungu Luggya, said the figures represent averages of 6,418 passengers per day—represents the biggest single-day record in Uganda. even before the covid 19 pandemic travel highlihghts .

The the new record figures are attributed to increase in business travel following Uganda Airlines new routes to the middle east and Nigeria , the holiday season, and tourism. The total number of passengers in 2023 was 1,932,000, exceeding the 1.8 million recorded in 2019.

Luggya is confident that with Uganda hosting the 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and Group 77 plus China Summits 2024 already looks good for Entebbe International Airport which has been expanded and given a new facelift.

In September 2023, Uganda’s aviation sector showed notable progress, outperforming both regional and worldwide averages after an important safety audit conducted by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) where it scored 72.2% for aviation safety.

Entebbe International Airport has also registered 59,000 metric tons of cargo load.
