Dr. Ruth Senyonyi Appointed Chairperson Uganda AIDS Commission

Dr. Ruth Senyonyi, the wife of the former Uganda Christian University vice chancellor, Dr. John Senyonyi and daughter to the late Bishop Misaeri Kawuma has been appointed the chairperson of the Uganda AIDS Commission (UAC).

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni appointed Senyonyi to follow in her father’s footsteps . The late bishop Kawuma was the first chairman of the Aids Commission in the early 90s when HIV/AIDS ravaged the country .

The UAC is a national organization established by parliamentary statute in 1992. Its primary objective is to coordinate and monitor the implementation of the national strategy to combat HIV/AIDS, which was adopted by the Government of Uganda in 1990.

Ruth Senyonyi (PhD) served as a Deputy Director, Counselling and Welfare Division in the Human Resource Department at the Central Bank of Uganda for 22 years. She is currently the Director of Bethel Counselling and Consultancy Centre.
