VICE PRESIDENT ALUPO URGES ACADEMICIANS TO CARRY OUT RESEARCH TO ASSES THE GAINS RECORDED FROM GOVERNMENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS

The Vice President Jessica Alupo has called upon the young people and academicians to support government by carrying out research to assess the progress being made by the development programs being implemented -like the recently launched Parish Development Model (PDM).

In a speech read for her by the Minister of Lands , Housing and Urban Development Hon. Judith Nabakooba  at the 17th annual entrepreneurship conference  held at Makerere Business School in Nakawa, the Vice President underscored the role of government  to ensure peace and stability  for development..

She called upon the citizenry to embrace all government development interventions to fight poverty and increase house hold incomes.   “ The role of ensuring social economic transformation is a role that is played not only by Government but also the people themselves. The NRM government has declared a policy of Private Sector Led Growth.,” she stated .

“This means that the NRM government expects individuals to be able to take the initiative to start businesses that they can call their own and these businesses should be in  position to contribute in uplifting the various people everywhere in the country so that they can enjoy the highest standards of living. “

Alupo said that entrepreneurship was important for the development of the country and saluted  MUBS  for training entrepreneurs for the last 20 years.

The VP advised that MUBS Should work with the Ministry of Science and Technology so that the ideas from science and technology can be nurtured by entrepreneurs and developed into commercial products ..

She reiterated government of Uganda commitment to support the vulnerable people in the countryside and  slum areas to increase their level of production and productivity.  

On her part , Ms. Nabakooba re-echoed President Museveni’s call on Ugandans to concentrate on the nine needs of  society which include food, clothes, shelter, medicines, defence, physical infrastructure (electricity, roads, rail, ICT), health, education and spirituality. The demand for these nine is eternal and they offer many economic opportunities .
