Uganda’s Female Musician Evelyn Nakabira dead at 42, Deputy Speaker Tayebwa pays tribute
Ugandan musician and actress Evelyn Nakabirwa also Evelyn love famously known as Evelyn Lagu is dead. She was 42 and is survived by one son . has rested after a three year long battle with Kidney related illnesses. She passed-on at her residence in Nabugabo following a long illness.
Nakabira was battling heart and kidney complications for years and she couldnt have a kidney transplant in Turkey due to her poor health. The kidney had been donated by her only son .

She featured in many plays and movies that included Ekiraamo which aired on local Bukedde TV. She had scheduled concert at Mesach Ssemakula’s Papaz spot in Makindye on 28th October 2023.
Nakabira’s famous songs included Ogumanga, I love you, Kasita Bakuleka and Wanjawulo, and Ngukuwadde.
Speaker of Parliament Anita Among tweeted: “The country has woken up to the devastating news of the passing of Evelyn Nakabira, alias Evelyn Lagu, who was a singer and actress. I wish to extend my deepest sympathies to the family, relatives, friends and the entire entertainment industry during this difficult time. May her soul rest in peace.”

Celebrated musician Eddy kenzo stated : “We took these pictures last Tuesday at the Jam session and I can’t believe your gone dear Evelyn Lagu. You have fought abig battle my sister may your soul rest in peace. ‘”
Nakabira was born on June 1, 1982, in Kalungu district which was part of Masaka. She grew up with her aunt in Mityana district following the death of her parents.
She studied at Aga Khan, Mityana SS, and Pride SS Mityana for her O’ Level education, and St. Peter’s Busubizi for her A’ Level, which she finished in 1999.
