Uganda police have commended a security guard for bravery after he resisted two armed attackers during a midnight robbery attempt at Gaz Petro Station in Masindi Municipality on August 10, 2026.
The guard fought back despite being injured, allowing a swift police response to arrest one suspect.
The incident occurred at about midnight when two armed suspects, travelling on motorcycle registration number UGG 529P, reportedly attacked a security guard deployed at the fuel station. The suspects were allegedly armed with a pump-action shotgun and a knife and attempted to overpower, disarm and rob the guard.
According to police spokesperson, Kituuma Rusoke, the suspects first attempted to lure the guard into repositioning their motorcycle, apparently with the intention of attacking him. They subsequently held him at gunpoint, leading to a struggle during which the guard sustained injuries while resisting the attackers.
A police patrol team responded swiftly to the scene and intervened, successfully foiling the attempted robbery. The injured security guard was rescued and one of the suspects, identified as Odoma Ronald, 43, was arrested at the scene.
Police recovered a pump-action firearm, a knife and motorcycle registration number UGG 529P, which was allegedly used in the commission of the offence.“At about midnight, two armed suspects travelling on a motorcycle attacked a security guard deployed at Gaz Fuel Station. They were armed with a gun and a knife and attempted to overpower the guard,” Rusoke said.
He said the suspects tried to lure the guard into helping them park their motorcycle.
“They attempted to lure him into repositioning their motorcycle and parking it properly. But by the time he took notice of their intentions, the suspects had already started the attack.”
According to Rusoke, the guard refused to surrender even after being put at gunpoint.
“The guard managed to put up a fight. A struggle ensued between him and one of the suspects, despite the fact that the suspect was armed.”“We managed to recover a pump-action firearm, a knife and the motorcycle. These are now part of the exhibits as investigations continue,” Rusoke said.
Efforts are ongoing to trace and apprehend the second suspect, who remains at large.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
The Uganda Police Force commends the vigilance and bravery of the security guard, as well as the prompt response by the police officers who intervened.
Rusoke said police would continue pursuing the second suspect as investigations into the attempted robbery continue.
“Investigations are ongoing, and our efforts are focused on identifying and apprehending the second suspect and establishing the full circumstances surrounding the attempted robbery,” he said.
