Tooro’s Queen Mother Best Kemigisa Says Royal Family’s Movement Is Restricted As Batebe Komuntale Rejects New King Kijanangoma Announced By Babito Clan
The Omusuga Charles Kamurasi’s two sons say they stand by King Oyo’s Will and have opposed their father’s decision to disregard the testament
In a statement dated September 10th, 2026 Kemigisa said security personnel had surrounded the palace and restricted the family’s movement and access to visitors.
“We cannot leave or receive people freely . We are under house arrest ,” Kemigisa said.
Kemigisa accused some members of the Royal Babito clan of causing division and infighting in the kingdom dating back to the passing of her husband King Mathew Kaboyo .
She said that the disputes ended up in court and she won leading to the crowing of her son king Oyo as King of Tooro .
The Queen mother said that the same people have now named a new purported king even before the remains of King Oyo are laid to rest .
“They chose to jubilate while my son was still lying in his casket next to them . That is what has hurt us most .

She appealed to the authorities to allow the family to mourn and bury King Oyo in peace .
At the sametime Batebe, Princess Ruth Nsemere Komuntale, has rejected the selection of Prince Edward Desmond Kijanangoma as the kingdom’s next monarch.
Kijanangoma was announced by the Babito Royal clan as the new king-elect to succeed the late Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, whose burial is scheduled for Saturday September 12,2026.
Komuntale, while rejecting the elected King Kijanangoma said that her late brother King Oyo left a valid Will in which he named the heir to the throne and even laid out a clear proceed to be followed in case his preferred heir was incapacitated before assuming the kingship.
Komuntale who is supported by her paternal aunt Batebe Elizabeth Bagaya said that Kijanangoma is not among the two successors identified by Oyo, noting that the Babiito were wrong to disregard the late King Oyo’s wishes as laid out in his testament .
Meanwhile two sons of the Head of the Babito Charles Kamurasi have denounced their father’s decision to dis regard the wishes the fallen king ‘s wishes as laid out in his testament .
Prince Solomon Nyaika who is named in King Oyo’s Will together with Patrick Mpuuga has said they support and stand to protect the wishes of the late King Oyo.
During an emotional press conference the two brothers said the late King oyo ‘s valid Will was claear on the way forward and that they were surpirsed by their father’s machinations to disregard it .” We disagreed with all honest and truth shall prevail . King Oyo’s Will supercedes any other documents that exsisted in the past ,” they stated .
President Museveni, has since told the nation that he was informed by the Queen Mother, Best Kemigisa, that the late King Oyo left behind a young son and heir to the throne.
