After Bus Collision With A Passenger Railway ,Uganda Railways Corporation Moves To Install Barriers And Warning Lights At High Risk Level Railway Crossings
After the death of three ple and injury of several others fwhen a Friendship Coach bus registration number UAU 123Q) carrying about 100 students from Mwebaze High School collided with the daily commuter passenger train in Mukono, Uganda Railways Corporation is now actively implementing interventions to address the risks at high-risk level crossings, and procurement is already in the advanced stages.
In an official communication URC said that they will now have automated barrier systems installed at railway level crossings in Kampala, Wakiso, and Mukono.
“The barriers will include Boom Gates, Warning Lights, and Audible Alarms, and will close whenever a train approaches. In the meantime, additional manpower will be deployed at all level crossings as an immediate safety measure,” URC officials stated .
Working with the Ministry of Works and Transport, humps will also be constructed on highway approaches to selected Level Crossings to reduce vehicle speed.
