PANIC AS COVID 19 SWEEPS GOVERNMENT MINISTRIES, AGENCIES AND BANKS
Several government Ministries and Agencies have reduced their working staff levels to 30% and many sent into self isolation after recording an increase in the number of the global-novel-Covid 19 cases.
Among the Ministries and agencies affected included Finance , Local government , Uganda National Road Authority (UNRA) , KCCA , Stanbic , DFCU banks , UBC and among others. DFCU confirmed five cases of Covid -19 at their Lugogo branch which has since temporally closed to the general public. The national broadcaster , Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC), reported 10 cases of Covid-19 at their premises .
Permanent Secretaries of the Ministries of Local Government and Science Technology and Innovation , (MoSTI) have sent out circulars informing their respective staff to stay and work from home allowing less than 30% of essential staff to report to their duty stations. The Ministry of finance which has also recorded 19 cases of Covid-19 has placed its entire staff on mandatory tests for deadly coronavirus.
According to latest figures from the Ministry of Health , 26 Ugandans have succumbed to the pandemic while 1,268 have been treated and recovered from the virus. The new cases have pushed the country’s cumulative case tally of infections to 2,524 out of 359,289 samples tested since the pandemic was first reported in Uganda early this year .
