President Museveni To Commission Shs63.9b Court of Appeal and Supreme Court Buildings On Friday

President Yoweri Museveni will officially commission the Shs63.9 billion Court of Appeal and Supreme Court buildings on February 9, 2024.

The President will also officially hand over to the leadership of the Judiciary a brand new Kayoola Electric Coach produced by Uganda’s flagship Kiira Motors Corporation , according to Dr. Pius Bigirimana, the Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Judiciary. These will be part of the activities to mark the opening of the New Law Year .

“The construction of the Court of Appeals and Supreme Court buildings is done. The facilities will be commissioned by President Museveni,” Bigirimana stated.

In 2019, the Judiciary launched the construction of the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal buildings. The magnificent seven -storey twin-towers that will accommodate Uganda’s appellate courts have been constructed by by Seyani Brothers. The facilities also have two-basement floor parking for 226 vehicles. The construction would take 24 months; however, it was delayed due to a lack of funds.

The buildings entail 20 chambers for justices, five board rooms, four court halls, three registries, and three chambers for the registrars. They have customized courthouses with modern courtrooms, chambers for the justices, a gym, and a restaurant, among other amenities.

During celebrations to mark the 38th NRM Liberation Day anniversary ,President Yoweri Museveni gifted the judiciary with the latest in a series of the Kayoola Electric Coach  buses -the first of a kind in East and Central  Africa .

The sublime  Kayoola 10 m Electric Coach, is a 43-Seater Executive Coach with a top speed of 100 KPH, Range of 280 KM and Battery Energy Storage System(BESS) 281.9 KWH.

It is equipped with USB Charging System per Passenger, Onboard Refrigerator of up 55 bottles of 300 mls, air conditioning system, seat belts for all passengers, onboard infotainment systems including TVs, microphones, radio, among others.

Executives at KMC said that their product mix is very competitive on the market at zero mileage .For instance, with all its unique features and design for the African ragged- terrain one can get this beauty of a bus at Ug. Shs.653 M VAT inclusive.

Amazingly , you only need Ug.Shs.45,710 to power the bus to cover a distance of 100 km.

Other activities

Other activities to be carried out by the judiciary will include the first National Court Open Day to be held on February 29, 2024, at Kololo Independence Grounds. The day will be open to all members of the public to understand various court processes where all justice players, such as police, ODPP, IGG, prisons, and judicial officers, will be interacting with the public freely.
