POLICE FINALLY CRACKS DOWN ON ERRANT MOTORISTS AND BODA-BODAS WHO ILLEGALLY USE SIRENS AND FLASHING LIGHTS TO CAUSE MAYHEM ON ROADS

Police is finally cracking down on errant motorists and boda-bodas who have for long misused emergency sirens and flashing lights  causing mayhem on Uganda’s public roads .

Now police Spokespamn Fred Enanga has said enough is enough and indisciplined drivers who illegally misuse sirens and flashing lighting  are going to be arrested and prosecuted for violation of the traffic law .

Drivers and boda-bodas to be arrested

“We have been lenient and only confiscating the sirens then cautioning the defaulters.

However, we have noticed that the dangerous habit is still being exploited by indisciplined drivers.

Therefore, those drivers ,motorists including boda boda riders who will be found to be using emergency lights and sirens on roads illegally, will now have them confiscated and the suspects charged in courts of law . Any repeated violations will lead to further court action under

Sec 123(5) and 6 of the Traffic and Road Safety Act 1998,” Enanga stated.

There  has been a public outcry  that motorists including boda bodas with sirens and Flashlights pose very serious danger to other road users and the public while illegally using them.

The errant motorists discharge high density lights causing more glare, causing obstruction to oncoming traffic or temporary blindness to the drivers. This habit has been so dominant at night and it  must stop.

However , Enanga did not tell the public to what will happen to officials that misuse lead cars that most times force other motorists off the main roads . Police is also yet to publish a list of VIPs who are entitled to lead cars and a right of way .
