EC conducts nomination of candidates for Oyam North parliamentary seat

The Electoral Commission (EC) is conducting the nomination exercise of candidates that will contest for the vacant seat of Member of Parliament for Oyam County North, Oyam District.

EC spokesperson Paul Bukenya, said the nominations will be conducted for two days at Oyam District Council Hall in Oyam Town Council, starting at 9am and ending at 5pm.

He says aspiring candidates will be required to fulfil all the requirements for nomination for Member of Parliament.

So far six aspirants have expressed interest to contest in the by-elections and these include the NRM endorsed candidate Engola Okello Samuel , Amolo Queen Dorothy (Independent), Apio Otuko Eunice (UPC), Okello Daniel (NUP), Okello Freddy Newton (FDC) and Omodo Willy Kagere (Independent)

“Nominated candidates will conduct campaign meetings for 13 days, that is, from Thursday 22nd June to Tuesday 4th July 2023,” says Bukenya.

According to EC roadmap, polling and counting of results for by-election of the Directly-elected Member of Parliament will be conducted on Thursday 6th July 2023, at all the 167 polling stations in Oyam County North Constituency, Oyam District.

The seat fell vacant following the death of the former MP Col (Rtd) Charles Okello Engola on May 2, 2023. Engola d was also the State Minister for labor.
