Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Tayebwa Endorsed to Retain Seat
The former Deputy Speaker of the 11th Parliament, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa has received political favor from the Chief of Defense Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba who publicly confirmed that PLU-leaning Members of Parliament will support him in the race for Deputy Speaker.
Gen. Muhoozi confirmed the development today May 19,2026, on his official X account, stating that the decision followed guidance from the Commander-in-Chief.
“On the issue of Deputy Speaker, after getting guidance from the Commander-in-Chief, all PLU leaning MPs will support Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa for that position. Congratulations Rt. Honourable,” Gen. Muhoozi posted.
In reply Tayebwa thanked PLU Chairman Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba for endorsing him, saying: “Thank you very much my senior brother and Chairman for your kind endorsement.
I also want to take this opportunity to thank Mzee H.E the President for the trust and confidence in me. Looking forward to working closely and harmoniously with my senior brother Hon Oboth Oboth, ” he added.
The news was also warmly welcomed by Tayebwa’s supporters who describe it as a strong vote of confidence in his leadership, experience, and performance in Parliament. While many believe that his ability to manage parliamentary debates and maintain working relations across the political divide has strengthened his standing among fellow legislators.
