Jonam County MP, Marshall Alenyo To Contest For 12 Parliament Deputy Speaker Position
Jonam County MP, Marshall Alenyo, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Deputy Speaker position in the 12th Parliament.
He says his bid is anchored on advancing the geopolitical inclusion of the West Nile sub-region in Uganda’s top executive and legislative leadership positions.
Alenyo, who won the Jonam parliamentary seat as an independent candidate aligned with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM)-leaning Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) faction, is being celebrated locally as a rising political force.
He was among key coordinators of President Yoweri Museveni’s 2026 re-election campaign in Pakwach District, where he helped deliver over 70 percent of the vote in an area previously considered opposition-leaning.
His entry into the Deputy Speaker race comes at a time of heightened political activity, with Parliament’s top leadership positions drawing interest from multiple contenders.
