African airlines see 14.1% rise in demand for passenger travel in May 2024 -IATA
African airlines saw a 14.1% year-on-year increase in demand and capacity was up 8.2% year- on-year, according to figures released by the international Air Transport Association (IATA.)
The load factor rose to 72.3% (+3.7ppt compared to May 2023). This was the fastest increase in load factor among all regions, although Africa still has the lowest load factor overall.
By comparison, the global airline industry reported 10.7% rise in demand for passenger travel compared to May 2023 levels (14.6% increase for international travel and 4.7% for domestic flights). The global average load factor 83.4% (up by 1.7 percentage points on May 2023).
