13 candidates seek to replace the late Speaker Jacob Oulanyah
At least 13 members of parliament from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) have expressed interest to contest for the vacant seat of Speaker of Uganda’s parliament following the death Jacob Oulanyah in a USA hospital early this week.
Those who submitted their papers seeking to replace the late Oulanyah included the Deputy speaker , Annet Anita Among, front runner -Jacob Oboth Oboth , Sarah Aceng Opendi, Kintu Arnest Brandon, Theodore Ssekikubo and Atima Jackson Lee. others are Felix Okot Ogong, Jackson Kafuuzi the Deputy Attorney General , Hamson Obua , Ruth Aceng the Minister of Health,Asiimwe Florence Akiiki, Okot John Amos and Wakabi Pius.
The NRM top organ CEC chaired by President Yoweri Museveni will meet and decide on the party’s choice for Speaker and make their recommendation to the NRM parliamentary Caucus on Thursday that will then vote for the selected individuals on Friday .
