WHAT IS EXPECTED AT THE NRM NEC AND DELEGATES CONFERENCE

The NRM delegates country-wide have assembled for their three day  National Executive Council (NEC) and  delegates conference where they will discuss matters of national importance , entertain campaigns for those contesting for the party’s top leadership positions before casting their votes in a scientific procedure  the first of its kind due to the ravaging novel -global Covid -19 pandemic.

The delegates this time around are expected to vote from their respective districts or zonal centers specifically set up for this purpose . The  Political Parties  and Organisations Act Cap.2005 allows  political parties to elect the Executive Committees every five years at a delegates conference.

In the past such delegates meetings haven been held at the Namboole National Stadium but due to the deadly coronavirus that is sweeping across the world ,government through the ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs presented regulations which were approved by Parliament to go ahead with delegates conferences while observing the SOPs and at the same time not offend the national constitution.

Following the above developments , the NRM , has since released a  robust political roadmap on for its members to elect party office bearers including the  Executive Committee positions for the national offices and other political elective offices for national and Local Government offices.

According to the NRM Party Director  Information , Publicity and public Relations ,Mr.  Emmanuel Lumala Dombo all the candidates who will be recommended to the NC will address the NRM members through the media, TV and radio stations on the Wednesday the 19th August 2020, from the NRM headquarters on Plot 10. Kyadondo Rd.

Dombo said that the National Conference will also be decentralized and will take place on Thursday 20th August 2020 at the various district headquarters. “The delegates to the  NC will only assemble for purposes of voting and receiving of documents from the Secretariat and depart the voting arena, save for delegates who may be polling agents. All candidates will have an agent at every polling center and at the tally center,”  Dombo stated adding that  all the NEC and NC delegates will have to comply with the MoH Covid-19 guidelines.

After the elections, the EC will count the votes and announce the results at each polling center. These results will then be transmitted to Kampala EC tally center, where the tallying will take place and the Chairman of the EC will announce the results.

There-after , the  National Chairperson will address the NRM members and all the people of Uganda on Thursday 20th August 2020 at 8PM  .  At that time , the NRM party will have  duly elected Executive Committee  members and a Presidential Flag Bearer.
