Uganda has budgeted UGX8.79 trillion shilling (USD2.3 billion) for the 2025/2026 financial year for transport infrastructure development. Air transport priority areas will include “expansion of Uganda Airlines” and “operationalisation” of the new Kabalega International Airport in Hoima District and the upgrade of regional aerodromes.
This is revealed in the June 2026 budget speech of Henry Musasizi, Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, who reported the completion of the first phase of the new airport, which will provide “critical logistics infrastructure to support oil and gas development, tourism, trade and investment in the Albertine region”.
The sum earmarked for Uganda Airlines was not disclosed, but the budget allows for the government to further capitalise the airline “by acquiring eight additional new passenger aircraft”.
The airline recently announced it signed a formal commitment with Boeing to acquire 10 new aircraft, including eight passenger aircraft – including B787s and B737 MAX – and two converted freighters: one B767 widebody and one B737 BCF narrowbody.
