The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) has upgraded the car park payment system at Entebbe International Airport with AI-powered technology and digital payment options.
Cameras and sensors automatically scan and identify vehicle registration plates upon entry and exit, even reading stained plates.
Mr. Vianney Luggya , the head Corporate Affairs at UCAA explained that unlike the old system , with the new infrastructure , exit barriers open automatically once parking fees are paid, removing the need for manual card insertion.
He said motorists can pay for parking by dialing *227# and following the prompts. The system will also allow the use of Visa and QR-code payment methods in an on-ging upgrade ..

A free jump-starting service is available for long-term parking users with dead car batteries has also been put in place.
The upgraded system includes seven new automated payment machines and more sensitive cameras designed to improve vehicle detection and payment processing. The equipment was manufactured by Germany-based Scheidt & Bachmann GMBH, replacing an older system that had only four payment machines.
The installation is expected to increase the parking system’s capacity and minimize queues as passenger traffic at Entebbe International Airport continues to grow.
The system is expected to improve vehicle movement, particularly during peak travel periods, by automating vehicle identification and simplifying payment.
