PRESIDENT MUSEVENI TELLS AMERICANS HOW UGANDA AND OTHER AFRICAN COUNTRIES SURVIVED THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

President Yoweri Museveni while attending a sideline health session at the Washington Convention Center has told the Americans how Uganda and other African countries survived the deadly Covid-19 pandemic that left more than a million people dead across world .

Museveni who walked from his hotel to the Convention Center , told the health session under the theme “Building Resilience for Healthy People, Healthy Countries” that Ugandan scientists used traditional and modern medicine to contain the Covid -19 virus .

Museveni acknowledged the work of Ugandan scientist -Professor Patrick Ogwang who combined ancient anti-viral traditional medicine from Eastern Uganda with modern medicines to come-up with an effective mixture called Covidex among others that helped treat people who were suffering from Covid-19 and saved many lives. 

Museveni told the meeting that there is need for collaboration between Uganda and the US in vaccines research. The President said that Uganda and Africa has a rich biodiversity range with vast medicinal plants.

“There are two areas where we are moving on our own, but where we would welcome collaboration if available. This is in vaccines and pharmaceuticals. It is not correct to continue with the present arrangement where, in the global share of pharmaceutical production of USD 1.42 trillion, Africa’s share is only USD 16 billion,” Museveni said at the well attended meet.

Museveni was appreciated for his continued leadership to contain deadly viruses like Covid-19 pandemic and the Ebola in Uganda and Africa.
