Last week Parliament presided over Speaker Rebecca Kadaga called upon government not to arrest people with out driving permits until the transition of processing and issuing permits from the old to the new company is completed.
Nabakooba also pledged government’s commitment to the protection and respect of media freedoms and speech as enshrined in the constitution after several journalists were clobbered by errant security officers while on duty .
“Government of Uganda respects and takes the freedom of the media seriously.
Over the years, government has worked hard to ensure that the media industry in the country progress without any interruptions.
We must remember that Uganda has one of the most vibrant media industries in Africa. With over 300 radio stations, Uganda has an average of two radio stations per district,” the Minister stressed.
