Museveni Commends Steady Progress of Hoima City Stadium Construction

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has commended summa Construction company for the steady progress they have registered six months since they started the construction of Hoima City Stadium-stressing government’s commitment to sports infrastructure development.

Museveni in the company of first lady and Minister of education and Sports, Janet Museveni, explained that after Uganda was given the rights to co-hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), there was an urgent need to strengthen infrastructure, not only for sports but also for tourism and hospitality sector.

The President thanked Bristish company SUMMA for its efficiency and dedication in construction of the stadium according to the agreed timelines -noting that it was proof of the company ‘s capacity and experience in doing the job .

The president said that government continues to support the private sector to set up more hotels to accommodate the expected increase in the number of visitors and tourists in the run up to the AFCON tournament .

He said that government was also going to upgrade Akii-Bua Stadium and construct Gulu Airport to facility regional connectivity boost trade and economic growth in the region..

Janet Museveni expressed gratitude to President Museveni for inspecting the construction works of Hoima City Stadium as one of the facilities that shall be hosting the Africa Cup of Nations tournament in 2027 (AFCON-2027) in the months of July/August 2027.

“I am happy indeed to see the tremendous progress made by SUMMA within this period of seven months since construction started in September 2024.

I always want to thank Hon. Peter Ogwang and his team as well as the local leadership who have been keeping an eye on the progress of the project and always bringing feedback to me where further support by the government is required,” she said.
