Jailed Karamoja Minister Kitutu denied bail ,taken back to Luzira

The Anti Corruption Court sitting in Kampala has denied bail to Karamoja Affairs Minister, Dr Mary Goretti Kitutu and sent her back to Luzira prison.
Magistrate, Ms Marion Aciro, stood over the matter to allow her enough time to consider the lengthy bail arguments made by the accused ‘s lawyers and those of the State.
Ms Kitutu’s was represented by some of Uganda’s leading criminal lawyers who were led by Mr Micheal Wamasebu, a former Deputy Director of Public Prosecution (DPP). Other Kitutu lawyers included Mr John Musiime, and Mr Jude Byamukama, .
In her bail application the lawyers presented – ill health, advanced age of 61, having a permanent residence in Bunga within the jurisdiction of court -plus land titles of land – in Wakiso District as grounds for her to be release on bail.
Kitutu sureties included her husband, Mr George Kitutu but failed to show proof of financial capacity.
The matter was therefore adjourned to Friday -April 14) 2023- when the said sureties will prove to court that they have all the requirements for the accused bail application to be allowed by court.
The Minister Kitutu was charged on two counts of loss of public property and conspiracy to defraud. she is charged together with-her younger brother Michael Naboya Kitutu and Joshua Abaho, the Senior Assistant Secretary in the Ministry of Karamoja Affairs in the Office of the Prime Minister.
