EC Chairman Justice Byabakama Announces New Dates For Nomination Of Candidates For Presidential And Parliamentary Elections

The Electoral Commission has adjusted the dates for the nomination of candidates for Presidential Elections 2025/2026, which was earlier scheduled to be conducted on 2nd and 3rd October 2025. The nominations will now take place on 23rd and 24th September 2025″ – Justice Byabakama , the Independent Electoral Commission Chairman, has said.
Justice Byabakama explained that the adjustment is part of broader preparations aimed at ensuring a smooth electoral process and timely delivery of key electoral activities ahead of the polling period.
Nomination of candidates for local governments, including Special Interest Groups (SIGs) will take place on 3rd to 12th September 2025;
,and nomination of candidates for parliamentary elections,16th – 17th September 2025.

The Commission urged all aspirants and political parties to align their preparations with the updated roadmap and ensure compliance with the relevant legal and procedural requirements.
Justice Byabakama emphasized the EC’s commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections, and called on all stakeholders to play their part in safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process.
The Electoral Commission is expected to release additional details on nomination venues, requirements, and campaign guidelines in the coming weeks as Uganda moves closer to the high-stakes 2026 General Elections.
