The Electoral Commissionhas commenced the display and public scrutiny of the National Voters Register in Adjumani West Constituency ahead of the parliamentary by-election slated for September 17, 2026.
According to Electoral Commission spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi, the exercise swhich started on Monday, August 17, 2026 will run until today August 26 ,2026 and is being conducted at all 114 polling stations within the constituency.
Mucunguzi said that the display exercise is intended to verify the particulars and ensure that the register accurately reflects eligible voters in Adjumani West.
” We want the registered voters to confirm that their personal details are correct and allowing members of the public to scrutinize the register to ensure that only persons legally entitled to vote in the constituency are included on the voters register , ” he emphasised .
He urged residents to carefully examine the register and report any irregularities identified during the display period.
“Displaying and scrutinizing the particulars on the voters register is a foundation of building and having a credible voters register, which is the foundation of a credible election,” Mucunguzi said.
The exercise follows the earlier update of the voters register undertaken as part of the by-election preparations. During that process, eligible new voters were given an opportunity to register, while voters who wished to transfer from one polling station to another, or transfer into Adjumani West Constituency, were able to submit their applications.
The Adjumani West parliamentary by-election follows the death of former 2nd Deputy Prime Minister and retired General Moses Ali on July 18, 2026.
The Electoral Commission issued the roadmap for the by-election on August 3, 2026, following stakeholder engagements in Adjumani District.
Mucunguzi said several activities have since been undertaken in accordance with the roadmap, with the display of the voters register now providing another important opportunity for stakeholders to contribute to the credibility of the electoral process.
According to the Electoral Commission, nominations for candidates seeking to contest the Adjumani West parliamentary seat will be conducted on September 7 and 8, 2026.
Mucunguzi called upon prospective candidates to begin preparing all the documents and requirements needed for nomination, including academic papers, nomination fees and other relevant paperwork.
He also urged political parties intending to field candidates to complete their internal processes for identifying and selecting their flag bearers in good time.
He said parties should also prepare and train their candidates so that the nomination process can be conducted smoothly and without incidents.
The Electoral Commission has appealed to candidates, political parties, voters, supporters and all other stakeholders to participate in the electoral process peacefully and within the law.
Mucunguzi urged all participants to follow the guidelines issued by the Commission and respect the established electoral procedures throughout the campaign, nomination and polling processes.
The Commission says a credible election depends on the integrity of the voters register, making the ongoing display and verification exercise a critical stage in preparations for the Adjumani .
