Road Carnage In Uganda : Fourteen Reported Dead In Lwera Masaka Highway Accident

In yes another road carnage , 14 people have died after a taxi collided with a lorry carrying sand in Lwera swamp in Kalungu District along the Kampala–Masaka highway.

Kasirye Twaha, the  RegionalPolice Spokesperson Greater Masaka, said the accident occurred on the night of August 3, 2026, at around 11:00pm at Kamunga Trading Centre.

A Toyota Hiace taxi, registration number UA 662AQ, and a Sino truck, registration number UBS 040F collided and all the deceased were occupants of the taxi.

“Fourteen people died on the spot, all from the taxi while four other victims two from each vehicle sustained injuries and were rushed to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital for treatment,” Kasirye said.

Police confirmed that the driver of the truck fled the scene and efforts to trace and arrest him are ongoing. Officers visited the scene and commenced investigations to establish the cause of the crash.

Over speeding ,reckless driving on narrow raods with poor lighting and signage are among the facts leading to the many road accidents in Uganda .
