NUP’S KYAGULANYI RELEASED ON BAIL ,MUSEVENI SAYS SECURITY IS READY TO PROTECT NRM SUPPORTERS FROM ATTACKS
Court in Iganga has granted bail to the National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential flag bearer Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine after spending 48 hours in a police cell .
Iganga Chief Magistrate, Jessica Chemeri , released Kyagulanyi on a UGSHS.IM on cash bail and ordered him to report back to court on December 18th.
“The accused has fulfilled all the bail conditions and I hereby grant him shs1 million bail. Since he’s a presidential candidate, the accused is hereby directed to adhere to all the electoral commission guidelines. His campaign meetings should have strictly 200 people, all wearing facemasks and observing social distancing to prevent the spread of coronavirus,” the Magistrate stated in her ruling.
She also order Kyagulanyi not to get involved in political processions . Elsewhere President Yoweri Museveni who is campaigning for the presidency on the NRM ticket warned people who are fueling violence that they will face the strong arm of the state . “Those who are attacking the NRM supporters will soon lose that appetite to do so . They will not touch the yellow attires even if abandoned by the road side ,” a tough talking Museveni stated.
Already , the army has told the general public to strictly adhere to the curfew hours as the security forces work to restore law and order following the riots in the last two days that have left more than 20 people dead.
