Namibia MPs Tour Kiira Vehicle Plant To Learn More About E-Mobility Solutions For Mass Transit In Africa

The visiting Namibia Members of Parliament  have toured the Kiira Vehicle Plant (KVP) in  Jinja to benchmark in the latest E-mobility solutions for mass transport on the African continent .

The MPs drawn from the  Standing Committee on Information, Communications, Technology, and Innovation of  the National Assembly of Namibia  were led by their Chairman ,Mr. Sebastiaan Karupu . Others included Mathias Sipipa Mbundu , Winnie Moongo, Mr. Elifas Angula, Clerks Gracious Mwiya and Norbert Uuyuni.

They were received at the KVP by the Kiira Motors, Executive Chairman , Prof . Sandy Steven Tickodri-Togboa and CEO Paul Isaac Musasizi among other officials .

Mr. Karupu said that the purpose of their visit was to learn more about KMC innovation journey in the E-mobility space and also have a feel of the company’s  premium products to explore possible exports to Namibia.

The delegation engaged in closed door discussions geared at exploring the innovative strides and technological advancements being championed by Uganda’s automotive industry flagship Kiira Motors Corporation .

The visit underscored the growing recognition of the Kiira Vehicle Plant as a leading hub of e-mobility and automotive innovation in Africa. The plant is the biggest in the East and Central Africa region .

The MPs had a test drive on the KMC’s latest 2024 model Kayoola Executive fully electric buses and toured the key production facilities at the plant which included the  Body shop for frame and body manufacturing; paint shop for painting the body,  chassis line for chasiss systems (steering system, brake system and axle and suspension systems) integration.

Other facilities are the trim and final assembly shop for floor boards, glass and trim assembly and  quality inspection and testing  (QIT) ,and the test track.
