After a warrant of arrest was issued by a magistrate ‘s court ,Kampala money lender Molly Katanga, appeared before a Nakawa Magistrate and was formally charged with murder of her husband, Henry Katanga.
The Magistrate Court committed Molly Katanga to the High Court of Uganda for trial and she was remanded in custody at Luzira maximum prison until February 19th, 2024.
Katanga, a prominent businessman was found dead on the morning of November 2, 2023, in his bedroom at his matrimonial home in Mbuya, Kampala.
The same court has so far remanded Molly’s daughters – Martha Nkwanzi Katanga, Patricia Kakwanza alias Tricia; house helper George Amanyire and Charles Otai to Luzira prison on the same murder charges.
The prosecution said it had completed investigations into the murder case ‘
Molly Katanga’s head, which her lawyers say was injured during a fight with her deceased husband was wrapped in a white bandage.
According to Kampala Associated Advocates, following the numerous surgeries performed on Molly Katanga, she has experienced stagnated healing in certain regions of her scalp, evidenced by persistent scabs and blackening of the region and dizziness which has impacted her mobility and comfort in general.
But the prosecution argued that Molly’s DNA was found on the trigger of the killer’s weapon, and the cartridges matched the pistol recovered at the crime scene.
The DPP plans to rely on postmortem reports, forensic analyses, phone printouts, and scene-of-crime reports as evidence in court.
Katanga’s lawyers say she was a victim of domestic violence.
