Lands minister Judith Nabakooba has urged low-income earners to embrace new property saving schemes, an initiative by real estate companies for people to own properties.
She made the call while officiating as issuance of over 200 land titles to clients of Fabulous Beautiful Homes in Bweyogerere, Wakiso District, who have been saving to buy land for the past one year.
“It is about trust and hard work. Continue with the saving culture and register more achievements in life.
Nabakooba underscored the power of saving, noting that register big achievements does not require a lot of money. The minister asked the beneficiaries in this year’s cohort to develop their land.
“We believe that each one of us can have what we call a home and we will be good to go and we shall be proud. Develop the property that you have acquired following the approved plans of the estates,” she added.
The Minister encouraged the new landlords to jealously guard their titles from any fraudulent activities. She asked them to regularly check for information on their titles using the new national land information system.
“Land information is available on our portal. Open up an account and check for the information to know the status of your titles,” she emphasized.
She thanked Fabulous Homes Chief Executive Officer, Immaculate Nantongo, for positively using social media to identify the most pressing need in her community.
She called upon the public to always tap into opportunities provided by the government through livelihood programs like the Parish Development Model, Emyooga, and GROW, among others.
Ms Nantongo, the Executive Director, of Fabulous Beautiful Home told the 2300 people have become landlords since 2018 when this initiative started.
“I thank the minister that ever since she assumed the portfolio of Lands Minister service delivery has improved. The time and procedure for acquiring a land title has reduced and we can access information online,” she said.
