BY OUR POLITICAL CORRESPONDENTS
DP’s Presidential candidate Norbert Mao has promised an equal distribution of government resources to benefit all Ugandans when elected president. Speaking to journalists shortly after being declared by the Electoral Commission Chairman Justice Simon Byabakama -a nominated presidential candidate, Mao called for unity and peace during the political season .
Mao said that once elected president , he will set up what her called the “Stolen Assets Recovery Tribunal”, to reclaim the public and private property that has been taken over illegally .He said DP believes in constitutionalism and rule of law .
He took a swipe at his opponents whom he accused of not holding delegates conferences to democratically elect their parties’ flag bearers .“We delayed because we are not a jua-kali party. We had to follow our party constitution as the oldest party having been founded 66 years ago. We are not like other parties that went for sole candidates . For us we had to hold a delegates conference to elect a presidential party flag bearer ,” he explained in his usual eloquent manner .
He called for unity among Ugandans. “DP doesn’t have blood on its hands . I don’t want to jump over bodies when going to be sworn in as your next president . Our message is reclaiming our future from those who have stolen it. DP has presented the best quality of candidates at all levels ,” Mao stated .
