FUFA Suspends Express FC for assaulting referees

Sending a strong message that hooliganism will not be allowed to creep back in Ugandan football, the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has suspended has Express FC after its fans allegedly assaulted match officials after their away game with UPDF FC. The game ended in a one all draw.

The assaulted match officials included assistant referee Fahad Ssekayiba and others who sustained injuries . They were waylaid by rowed fans on their way from the game.

“This is therefore to communicate the decision by the Executive Committee of FUFA to suspend all matches involving Express FC with immediate effect until an amicable solution is found,” FUFA letter reads in part . Until this incident , Moses Magogo’s led FUFA had been credited for stamping out hooliganism in the Ugandan game .

Express FC has since issued a statement themselves from the hooligans and have expressed their willingness to work with FUFA to identify the miscreants and have them heavily punished including having criminal charges placed against them .

Expressed had been lined up to face traditional rivals SC Villa on Wednesday .
