Former Liverpool Manager Arne Slot joins UEFA Technical Observer Group

Former Liverpool manager Arne Slot has officially returned to football, having joined the UEFA Technical Observer Group.

Slot was fired as Liverpool manager in May following a disappointing Premier League title defence. After winning the English title in his debut season on Merseyside, Slot’s Liverpool finished fifth with 60 points, 25 fewer than champions Arsenal.

After being considered for the Netherlands job earlier this summer, Slot has officially joined the UEFA Technical Observer Group, a panel of former and current managers who analyse UEFA Champions League games, pick winners for UEFA awards such as Player of the Round and Team of the Season, and deliver technical reports on the latest coaching trends.

Slot is one of 36 former and current coaches who comprise the UEFA Technical Observer Group. Working alongside the Dutchman for the 2026/27 season are the likes of Rafa Benitez, Thomas Frank, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Frank de Boer, Roy Hodgson, Erik ten Hag, Kasper Hjulmand, Claude Makelele, Ernesto Valverde, Sean Dyche, Gareth Southgate, and Ange Postecoglou.

In an interview earlier this summer, Slot said he turned down the Netherlands role because he wanted to return to club football.

“I prefer to see myself on the training field with my players every day, something that is simply not possible in the same way with a national team,” Slot told the media .

“I have a lot of respect for the national team and the KNVB, and I can only be positive about how professionally the talks went that week. For now, I believe that club football still has a lot to offer me.”
