UPDF releases details about ADF attack on a school in Kasese that left 37 students dead
The UPDF has released details about a deadly attack on a secondary school in the border district of Kasese that left 37 students dead.
In a statement released by the army spokesman , Brig. Gen Flex M. Kulayigye, the ADF bandits attacked Mpondwe/Lubiriha Secondary School at 11.30 pm last night and killed 37 students whose bodies have since been taken to Bwera government hospital mortuary.
The ADF terrorists also abducted six students at the privately owned school which is located in Nyabuganda Parish ,Karambi Sub county Kasese district.
According to the UPDF, eight survivors of the attack are admitted at Bwera government hospital where they are being treated of their injuries . The army has also rescued three students while another six students are still missing and are feared to have been abducted by the fleeing rebels.
The UPDF says that about five ADF rebels are believed to have carried out the attack- deadliest since the Kichwamba massacre in Kabarole district in 1998 where the same ADF rebels killed over 80 students .
Sources in Kasese told ugandaupdatenews.com that following the attack, DPC Bwera got in touch with the UPDF Mountain battalion commander who deployed forces to pursue the terrorists .
“On arrival the school was found burning with dead bodies of students lying in the compound and the schools food store broken into and food to wit posho and beans taken. Fire truck from the region has been called to put off the fire,” a source explained.
The attackers moved on foot with some abducted students – whom they used to carry the looted food towards Virunga national park.
